Day 4, 5, & 6

Hey guys, sorry for the late updates…. getting wifi for 37 people in a hotel room in Italy isn’t as easy as one would think.

Day 4

For the 4th day, our first official tour in Italy we took a little trip to Pisa. We got a chance to see the field of Miracles and take some awesome pictures near the leaning tower. A lot of us got presents from the vendors, but it was extremely hot. After the leaning tower we stopped a beautiful farm/vineyard and enjoyed a well planned out lunch. The 21 and up crew got a chance to taste some organic wines and we were given a tour of the farm and learned about the process of making olive oil and their wines. At this fantastic vineyard we also discovered that “Love is in the air”, because we had a very flirtatious waiter and the humor was unbelievable. I even got an Italian boyfriend named “Julio” who barely spoke any English, but insisted on kissing my cheek in a “photo”. It was pure fun and laughter and it’s great to see how a sense of humor can bring relaxation into a group (p.s don’t worry Sam, you’re better looking haha). After lunch we headed back to our hotel in Montecatini where we had a couple hours of free time to explore. Personally, I took a little bit of a nap….. but after I woke up I took a small stroll around Montecatini and bought a few things from their local market. Our next adventure would be Florence.

Team in Pisa!

^^ yes, I think I’m cool for kicking the tour back up….. lol

Day 5

We woke up at an early time and headed over to the center of Florence. We went on a 2 hour guided tour of the city and gained a lot of insight on the history of the financial capital of Italy. Florence is famous for this production of leather and during our free time most of us  spent some money in the piggy market buying leather for ourselves or as presents. We spent about 5 hours total in Florence and I still feel like there was more to see. The city definitely had a lot of history and was a big attraction to tourists. I will admit that the 5 hours spent were exhausting, but we still had our second match to play. We got back on our bus and headed over to stadium where we would play a local women’s team. The game was very intense and different than the game against the French side, but unfortunately we only managed to tie them 4-4. The team was a lot better individually, but under other circumstances I’m positive we could have won that game….. regardless, it was certainly a match to see. After the game, we headed back to our hotel for dinner and most of us were ready to pass out forever….. except we had to be up at 530 in the morning because our next stop was Como, 4 hours away and breakfast would be served at 6 am.

Day 6

The alarm went of at 530 sharp and we loaded up our bus before breakfast so that we could depart at 645 am. The bus ride was fairly silent and we would spend about 5 hours traveling to the city of Como (it took longer because we had to take a detour to Milan to drop the Gibbons off at the airport). The day was already looking drowsy and we were expecting rain. After arriving to Como around 1230 we were given about 2 and a half hours to explore the city on our own. Possibly do some shopping or walk by the lake and enjoy its beauty. At 3 o’clock we were given another 2 hour guided tour of the city, learning about its history as well as admiring the beautiful architecture from the medieval times. It wasn’t as enjoyable as it could have been because less than half way through our tour it began to pour and a lot of us weren’t dressed for the weather. Instead of having another hour of free-time in Como we simply headed back to the hotel and enjoyed a nice relaxing evening to ourselves. Our next adventure is Milan, where we’ll get a chance to visit the stadium belonging to both AC Milan and Inter.

^ haven’t gotten any pictures up for this one.

P.S. My apologies for the late updates, but flickr has been struggling with the uploading and the wifi is so inconsistant that blogging has been hard too. Check back for some more updates tomorrow though :)

Today, June 3rd… my soccer team (UMW Women’s Soccer) begins our journey to France and Italy for a nine day trip. Beginning on the 12th I will take a side trip to Bosnia to visit some family with my friend Erin. During this trip I’m going to blog about all of our adventures and make sure to post plenty of pictures for everyone to be extremely jealous, but more importantly so that I have an opportunity to share it with my friends, as well as look back on it for myself.

After 4 long days of training and preparation at UMW, our team is finally ready for take-off. We will be flying from Dulles International to London, Heatherow and landing at our destination in Nice, France. We will be playing 3 different friendlies against teams from both France and Italy as well enjoying various beautiful cities in both countries.

Keep checking up on my blog for further updates and to check out all the fun things we’ll be doing. I will try to blog as much as I can, but it all depends on the wifi availability.

Also, there will be photo streaming from my flickr account and those will be coming directly from my iPhone, enjoy.

5 Second movieeeeee

The next assignment that I decided to do for this week was to create a 5 second movie. This assignment asks for the creation of a movie that last 5 seconds …. it could represent anything really.

For this assignment I decided to create a movie with a small joke. I initially wanted my friends to act out something that was quick, funny, and easy to do …. of course having the friends that I have.. it turned out a lot funnier than I planned and far from what I actually wanted to do. I initially wanted the girl to come out of the room really upset and the guy to come out after her and yell at Trav (the one already standing in the scene) “Dude you slept with my girlfriend” then go ahead and tackle him to the ground. I tried convincing them to do that about 5 times and none of them could stay serious for as long as 5 seconds. After numerous attempts and lots of laughter and joking around … one of my friends simply came out saying “Did you know Sam’s a virgin” …. I thought it turned out a lot funnier than the other ones that we filmed and therefore I decided to keep it and use it for my 5 second movie. I think it made it a lot funnier considering it was so unplanned and my friend Connor (the speaker) came up with it on the spot. I simply recorded this happening on my iPhone and then imported it onto my computer. I then put it onto my iMovie, added a title to bring in the laughter and then uploaded it onto youtube … not bad at all. The video is actually 7 seconds, but it’s simply because of the title in the beginning. I got a really huge kick out of this assignment, I guess because funnier things happen when they go unplanned. I definitely had a set planned and I even yelled “action” when I wanted them to come out of the door…. It felt like I was actually creating a movie & I totally appreciated my friends agreeing to do it, even though they were being a tad annoying about getting it done.

I chose to do this assignment because I realized that we were working with Video Assignments for a reason….. I’ve done various assignments this week and I’ve gotten a chance to mess around with music, video editing, and now I finally got a chance to do some of my own filming as well. It was a lot more fun than I expected and I’m glad I can say I made my own movie …. even though it was for only 5 seconds and it wasn’t really my directing that I ended up picking. Regardless, STILL FUN!

The last Audio Assignment that I decided to complete for this week was the assignment asking for Multi personalities. I initially didn’t plan on doing this assignment, but after hearing a lot of other people works I changed my mind and decided that I would try to do it as well. The idea that I used was simple….. I had a mom ask her 4 children how their day at school was. Each child responded as they wished….. there was a variety of personalities and they were all things that I know I would find myself saying if my mom asked me how my day of school was. For this assignment I used my own voice a fair amount… trying to sound like a boy or even the bratty daughter, but I also changed some of the pitch using the effects of Audacity. I thought this was a fun assignment and I didn’t realize it would be this fun in the beginning. I tried to tell a story, but having multi-personalities in a story isn’t as easy as having four people speaking as a story. After I finished my recordings … I listened to it a few times, laughed at myself, then uploaded it onto my SoundCloud. ENJOYY!

Telling a story in 5 Frames:

This is a story of eating breakfast before class. I couldn’t really be creative enough to think of a huge story to put into 5 frames so I just did something as simple as what I eat in the morning before class. I liked this challenge because it forced me to think of all the possible stories that someone could tell. I also looked around to see other people’s ideas and see the manner in which people told their stories. For my story, first I have a picture of my bowl and spoon. Secondly I have a picture of just cereal inside the bowl (Captain Crunch is sooo good). The third picture shows me pouring milk inside the bowl with the cereal. The fourth picture shows me eating the cereal …. pretty good! Lastly I have a picture of what my bowl looks like once I am finished with my breakfast. That’s a simple story to put into five frames…. It’s a story or an act that I do nearly everyday (unless I wake up late and don’t have time). I thought sharing a story in five frames was going to be easy, then I thought about how many pictures I’d need to take in order to share a really interesting story. I HOPE THIS WORKS… enjoy the pictures and remember that nearly anything you do can be put into a story!

My first daily create was suppose to show the wide open space, the great outdoors.
The picture I posted is a picture that I took this past summer while on vacation in Wisconsin. I love this picture just because it looks so peaceful.

The second Daily Create that I did was suppose to show a spinning object.
I chose to spin a baseball that my friend let me borrow on my kitchen counter. I think it looks pretty cool.

The third Daily Create that I chose to do is of wearing something on your head as a hat that has no business being there. I chose to have my friend Lauren @laurstay20 wear a baseball Glove on her head…. make it look like a hat :) It just also happened to be the only thing laying around at our friend’s apartment.

We were also asked to do some research on Creative Commons and write about our findings, here’s the link to my Creative Commons post:

MY FIRST DIGITAL STORY: I decided to do a GIF of one of my favorite shows … How I met your mother. I think it’s really hilarious and I just thought it would look really cool having one of my favorite characters (Barney) saying his favorite word through-out the show …”LEGEN-DARY” … If you watch the show you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about. Making a GIF was a lot easier than I thought, but it certainly took some effort and learning. I think the video that Alan posted about how to make it work on wordpress helped me a lot. I worked on this with my friend Lauren because we were both struggling on getting it started, but we both found that we were just over-thinking it. Nonetheless I think it turned out GREAT ; Enjoy!!!

Customizing my blog: Wellllllllllllllll I’m going to be completely honest and say that I want to continue to work on customizing my blog. I haven’t had a great deal of time to fiddle around with every little thing and I’m also one of those people who has a hard time picking a background or a header picture and sticking to it. Right now I just kept my background as my favorite color (tealish blue…haha i made that name up) and I decided to put my header as a picture of me looking into the lakes while in Wisconsin this past summer. I think this reflects me pretty well for the time being, obviously I have intentions of changing it… EVENTUALLY. I haven’t figured out what I want to do with this space, but shortly I will figure stuff out!

Week 2: I think personally week two went pretty well…..It was just as high paced as the rest of my classes this semester, but I liked the tasks we were asked to do. I like taking #ds106 , it helps me bring out some of my creative side (not saying that I have a huge creative side or anything). I don’t think I need help with anything right now, but I do need to start making a bit more time to get everything done correctly. I always seem to worry if my work is going to turn out the way I want it to….. I aim to please :) BUTTTTT I’m currently satisfied and happy with the work I’m doing … So WEEK 3… Let’s GO!

p.s I might also get bored and start doing some more GIF’s …. now that I know how haha! They’re awesomeeee
