I can’t believe the semester has come to an end!!!!
It felt like just yesterday I was creating my own website and struggling to come up with a domain name that I thought suited me well. It’s crazy to see that I am now completing my DS106 journey and signing out as a DS106er. Making the advice video actually brought back a lot of different memories … and this experience definitely taught me a lot. I got a chance to be a part of a radio show, to make my own movies, to tell stories in various ways, and lastly to experiment with my OWN thoughts and ideas. It was allllll a great journey and at times I found it difficult, but DEFINITELY worth it. I plan on continuing to use my website …. maybe an occasional blog here or there, or even some ds106 involvement. I mean …. I have to use all these apps on my computer at some point. I’m really glad I got to learn all these new things … I feel so ahead of the game in terms of technology haha. I hope future DS106ers enjoy the class as much as I did, taking this course was a great decision on my behalf. Here’s a little advice for the new-bees…. hope it helps
For starters, let’s talk about the word STORYTELLING..
My association to the word STORYTELLING can be put really simply, It’s like playing the game of telephone. Storytelling varies in so many ways… There’s the stories that you want to tell your kids as their growing up to teach them a lesson. There’s also the stories that you hear as a kid growing up, some that you won’t ever forget. There’s stories you tell in terms of gossip, or even telling someone what happened in class that they missed today. STORYTELLING can be interpreted in multiple ways, it can be either good or bad, long or short, exciting or fun. Storytelling changes from person to person and place to place, but it’s the constant transferring of information… Like you’re talking on a telephone. Each STORY being TOLD has a beginning, middle, and an end…..but each interpretation is much more than that.
DIGITAL….. Adding the word Digital to Storytelling causes a bit of change in the meaning of STORYTELLING. Once a story is told digitally your interpretation increases in option. If the digital story is simply a picture you can interpret it in SO MANY ways… Your mind is not limited, many people will interpret it in many ways… Once a story becomes digital the storyteller can easily be invisible..A DIGITAL story is like telling a story in real life, but without an author. For example: When I think of Digital Storytelling, the first thing that comes to my mind is a picture posted online, reposted by random people, reposted by your friend and found it’s way on your screen. The true story of that picture you may never know, but the story you created out of looking at that picture could become so much more. I think Digital Storytelling can reach a greater audience and could easily be a get away for someone who doesn’t necessarily want to “speak” about THEIR story.
Alright, I know that was a lot and probably really confusing…. but since I’m being honest I’m simply going to say I just WROTE whatever thoughts came out when thinking of those two words. I’ll let that be my story for the day.
& This is what I think when I think Digital Storytelling:
